Lime Crime and the Controversy in Between

The beauty and cosmetic industry is one that keeps growing day in day out. More products join the market, few exits and several slapped with fines and warning letters over their rogue products. The company still prospers regardless.

At the helm of summer 2008, one such company maneuvered its way into this industry amidst controversy; that of its founder and its products too. Lime crime, a company that deals in eye-shadows, lipsticks and general make-up with a brilliant theme of very bright colors, graced the shelves; especially online shelves. The company is located in New York City, USA.

This company started up in august. February of the same year, the founder Doe Deere (previously known as Xenia) had been promoting her music when she officially changed her name. In august, Xenia brought back her live journal with a new name ‘Doe Deere Blogazine’ and began doing some make up tutorials. An idea came into her mind the same year as several cosmetic companies that time had taken a different root. She wanted bright colors majorly for the many 16-year old girls on the net. In October the same year, she officially launched Lime Crime Company and its products. She then included tutorials of her Lime Crime company on her blogazine. Some of them explained how to use the products.

As the norm on the internet blogosphere, some bloggers came up with claims about her and her products. They claimed that the lime crime products were a repackage from another company known as TBK Micas. This was done by comparing the two products. Doe Deere then uploaded a video to refute the claims besides providing truth that she makes the eye-shadows herself. Rumors had it that she doesn’t make the eye-shadows.

Doe Deere is of a Russian origin that fast lived in her mother country Russia before moving to the United States in the year 1999. She then started singing in 2002 together with her husband as a band called Sky Salt. In 2004, she headed to e-bay and stated selling clothes. There, she met a fellow designer called Shrunkle. There relations ended as fast in 2006 and she started another line of business. Selling clothes designs from yet another friend Sepayana. These businesses however did not perform well. She went back to music again and hence forth the career was not as promising as it was supposed.
This is when she started her innovative and most unique line of cosmetics. However, her business has faced many challenges besides those from bloggers. The FDA organization offered advice to the users of her lipstick claiming that it contains dangerous chemicals. The chemicals she uses are only suit for external body use. When it comes to lipstick, this chemicals come in contact with the internal glands hence dangerous.

Purina Has Become a Leader in Pet Products

Created in December 2001, Nestlé Purina Petcare was established when Nestlé purchased Ralston Purina, which in 1894 stared as a business selling horse-feed, for $10.3 billion, then merged the business with Friskies Petcare Co. Based in St. Louis, Missouri, Nestlé Purina Petcare manufactures food, treats and litter for pets under brand names such as Beneful, Friskies, Purina Dog Chow, Purina One and Purina Pro Plan. The trend of spending more money on pets by consumers in the United States as well as globally has made Nestlé Purina Petcare the second largest company for pet food as of 2012.

As the two companies continued to be combined, in 2002, the Friskies PetCare Company operations in Arden Hills, Minnesota, Jefferson, Missouri and St. Joseph, Missouri slowed their production of dry dog food and began to incorporate the manufacturing of the dry products at the Ralston facilities. Wet food production was then being increased at the expanded plants located in the Dunkirk, New York facility, as well as in the St. Joseph, Missouri location.

I’ve even seen some Purina news about their participation and sponsorship of charities and fundraising events for pets. A collaboration with the Canine Health Foundation in 2003 supports veterinary research advancement, and in 2004 after Hurricane Charley hit Florida, Nestlé Purina Petcare donated money to local animal shelters in the amount of $100,000, as well as supplying 80 tons of food for pets affected by the hurricane. Also, as a supporter of pets joining their owners at work for the past 17 years, Nestlé Purina kicked off its Take Your Dog to Work Day on June 26, 2015 to encourage employers to participate in the Pets at Work effort. The goal was to set a world record for the most pets being brought to work.

Along with pet foods and treats, Nestlé Purina Petcare also became involved in selling pet insurance in 2008 out of its separately formed company, PurinaCare, out of San Antonio, TX. In addition, Petfinder, a website for pet adoption was purchased by the company in 2013. Manufacturing ventures in Australia, Germany and Hungary were increased during the period between 2010 and 2012, further expanding the company’s revenue.
